Galleri Charlotte Lund has the pleasure of presenting our second solo exhibition with new works by Astrid Svangren.
In this exhibition Astrid Svangren develops her painting on plexi mirrors and MDF. As in Svangren’s previous work, the paintings are presented together with simple objects creating spatial installations. Included in this exhibition is a large scale painting on MDF in four parts, installed on pink bubble wrap, which was shown last year at Ystad konstmuseum.
Svangren exposes the paintings to various materials such as tape, cellophane and sandpaper together with watercolour, ink and acrylic paint. The scratchings on the surface mark an intense and intuitive creating process. Astrid Svangren is interested in the symbolic qualities of mirrors. Their reflecting surface invites the viewer and the gallery space to be participants in the art works.
Astrid Svangren, born in 1972 in Gothenburg, lives and works in Copenhagen and attended the Malmö Art Academy. In 2007 and 2008 the artist had solo exhibitions at Elastic Gallery in Malmö and the Nordic Watercolour Museum. Svangren is represented in the collections of Moderna Museet, Stockholm and Malmö Art Museum. In 2005, she received the The Edstrand Foundation Scholarship. This spring, Svangren will participate in our booths at art fairs ARCO, Madrid and The Armory Show, New York.
During the course of the exhibition the gallery will organize an artist talk with Astrid Svangren and an invited guest.
